The Virtue and Reward of Reading the Quran
Learning the Holy Quran is not only an important duty for every Muslim, but also a very virtuous and highly rewarded act of worship. Our Prophet (PBUH) has many encouraging statements regarding this matter.
Our Prophet (asm) sometimes called Hz. of the Companions. He addressed his entire ummah in the person of Abu Zer. He once said the following about the virtue and reward of learning the Quran:
“O Abu Zer! Going and learning a verse from the book of Allah is better for you than praying a hundred rakats. And learning a matter from knowledge, whether it is acted upon or not, is better than praying a thousand rakats.”1
Once, our Prophet (pbuh) Hz. He gave the following advice to Ali:
“Oh Ali! Learn the Quran and teach it to people. There are ten rewards for each letter. When you die, you die as a martyr.
“Oh Ali! Learn the Quran and teach it to people. "Just as people circumambulate the Kaaba when you die, angels also circle around your grave."2
According to a hadith narrated by Enes bin Malik, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
"Be careful! "Whoever learns the Holy Quran, teaches it and acts on what is in it, I will send him to Heaven and I will be his evidence for Heaven."3
The greatest blessing that being busy with the Quran brings to man is that it provides light to his eternal life. The angels did not leave him alone in his grave, they constantly visited him and asked for forgiveness from God.
Like other acts of worship and deeds, the Quran intercedes for believers and they ask God for the salvation of man.
In a hadith narrated by Hasan al-Basrî, our Prophet (pbuh) says the following regarding this issue:
“Learn the Quran. Surely, he will be the best intercessor for his people on the Day of Judgment.”4
In another narration, while informing about how a learned verse will greet people on the Day of Judgment, the following is stated:
“Whoever learns a verse from the book of Allah, that verse will greet him with a smile on the Day of Judgment.”5
On the Day of Judgment, God Almighty will give consciousness to other beings besides living beings. They will also speak and respond. Good deeds, especially prayer and fasting, will welcome people and help them. One of these good deeds is the reward of the verses learned and recited.
Teach the Quran to Children
After a person learns to read the Quran, he tries to teach it to his children. He ensures that they are not deprived of the Quran. At the same time, this is a duty that our Prophet imposed on parents.
Because teaching the Quran is also a means to save a person's eternal life.
According to the narration of Abu Hurayra, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever teaches a child the Quran, Allah will place such a necklace around his neck that people before and after will admire him on the Day of Judgment.”6
A child has some rights over the father. One of these is teaching him to read the book of Allah. If he is suitable for this, he teaches it himself; if not, he ensures that he learns it through a Quran course or similar. A child who tries to learn the book of Allah at a young age gets used to being educated by the Qur'an and breathing in its blessings.
By learning the Quran, the child not only makes progress in his own spiritual life, but also provides benefits for the eternal happiness of his parents.
In a hadith narrated by Abu Dawud, our Prophet (pbuh) says the following regarding this issue:
“Whoever reads the Quran and acts according to its provisions, his parents will be crowned with a crown on the Day of Judgment. The light of this crown will be brighter than the light of the sun in all the houses of the world. “What do you think about acting with the Quran?”7
“Whoever reads the Quran, learns it and acts according to it, his parents will be crowned with light on the Day of Judgment. Its light is like the light of the sun. His parents will be given two garments that worldly wealth cannot compare with. They say, 'For which of our deeds have we been given these?' It is said, 'Because your child observes the provisions of the Quran.'8
For this reason, let us be in harmony with the Quran for the comfort and happiness of both ourselves and our children. Let's make an effort to learn and teach it. In this way, we are deemed to have fulfilled our religious duty, which is fard al-sufficient, and we also brighten our hearts, our time and our homes.
