Our Opinion on Sufism and tariqa
What do the Furkan Movement and Imam Alparslan Kuytul think about Sufism and Cults?
The Furkan Movement is a movement built on the principles of Rabbanism, scholarship and comprehensiveness. The Rabbani movement aims to prepare a generation of intellectuals and scholars in both Islamic sciences and physical sciences. Imam Alparslan Kuytul compares the Islamic caller to a bird with two wings: one wing should act with Islamic sciences and the other with modern sciences. Despite this statement, there have been attempts to create a perception of Imam Alparslan Kuytul as an enemy of Sufism and tariqa. Let us try to briefly explain the thoughts of Imam Alparslan Kuytul about Sufism and tariqa.
Sufism is a branch of science that aims to discipline the nafs (temptations), to accustom people to voluntary worship and to raise people to perfection, encouraging them to be pious and showing them the ways to raise their spiritual levels. We learn about halal and haram from the science of fiqh. We learn our principles of belief from the science of al-akaid. We learn about self-control, marifatullah, muhabbetullah, reaching a perfect imaan, and getting pleasure from worship from the science of Sufism.
The science of Sufism is true and necessary. However, what is criticized are the superstitions and bid'ahs that have been added to this science over time. Sufism shows people the ways of approaching Allah, but some of the ideas that have settled in today's understanding of Sufism have brought people to the point where they have lost their faith. These ideas must be eliminated. It is not right to ignore the state and situation of Muslims and to withdraw into a corner and engage only in one's own dhikr and worship. The Prophet's every action was prayer and dhikr. He did not spare any extra time for this. Prayer, dhikr and worship were ingrained in the course of his life. This spiritual education is learned and used in the natural course of life. Sufism is essential for the struggle in the way of Allah. But if the knowledge learned is only to gather for this purpose at certain times, not to change life and not to be used for the good of the Ummah, then there is a mistake.
Sects exist in Islam. Just as there are Hanafi, Shafi'i and Maliki schools within the school of fiqh, there is also a school of tariqa within the school of Sufism. There is nothing wrong with having schools in Islam. However, today is the time to be a community, not a sect. When we look at the emergence of sects, we see that it was a time when Islam was dominant and the influence of Islamic Civilization was seen everywhere. Today we are not in that time. We need the beauties of Sufism every moment. But today, Muslims have more urgent and prioritized tasks such as establishing the Islamic Civilization that Allah is pleased with, reviving and building generations.
Imam Alparslan Kuytul summarized about Sufism and tariqa: "We should stop totalitarianism, there is right and wrong in it. It is unfair to discard tasawwuf because of a man who believes that his Sheikh is all seeing, all hearing and all knowing. It is not the right approach to blindly accept or reject everything. Sufism is necessary and essential for everyone who struggles in the way of Allah." He says.
