Our Opinion on Coups
"Did Imam Alparslan Kuytul wish success to the coup d'état? What is Imam Alparslan Kuytul's opinion about the July 15 coup?
"Did Imam Alparslan Kuytul wish good luck to the coup? What is Imam Alparslan Kuytul's opinion about the July 15 coup attempt? Did Imam Alparslan Kuytul hoped for relief from the coup attempt?" has been one of the most common Slanderous and false allegations against Imam Alparslan Kuytul and the Furkan Movement for a long time after the coup attempt on July 15, 2016. Some of the slanderous news organizations tried to turn the sentence "May this coup be for the good of Muslims, may it not hinder Islamic services" that Imam Alparslan Kuytul said after the commentary on the night of the coup into "may this coup be for the good of the coup" and tried to make him a coup supporter with cropped videos.
A coup means the overthrow of an elected government by force of arms. We are against all forms of coup! Because a coup is injustice. Justice, which is an Arabic word, means to put everything in its proper place, to give a person his or her due. Allah (swt) says in Surah Nahl, verse 90: "innellahe ye'muru a adli..." Allah commands justice. He commands that everyone should be given his due. It is a requirement of justice that everyone should be given his due, whether he is rich, poor or a citizen without status or position. Allah, even though He is the God, did not accept coercion in religion: la Ikrahe fiddini. If Allah does not allow us to force people even in His religion, how can He allow the seizure of power by force of arms? Even though people are Allah's servants, He still wants them to become Muslims by persuading them in some way, He wants them to believe voluntarily, He does not allow coercion. He does not give us such a right to make changes in the earth. Because this is against justice.
"...Innallāha laa yugayyiru maa bi tribmin hata yugayyiru maa bi enfusihim..." "Allah does not change what is in a society until that society changes itself..." Allah [Azza wa Jalla] states that He will not change societies through coups, through oppression, through dictatorship; He will not bring about revolutions in societies in this way. If you want to bring about a change in society, then what you need to do is to convince the society, not to attempt a coup against the elected people at gunpoint. If you are uncomfortable with what is happening in society, with the government, with the way the state is going, the way to do this is to tell people about your cause if it is right and legitimate. In Islam, there is nahi anil munkar; to prevent evil. But the way to do this is not through persecution. Even if there are some injustices in your homeland, it is not possible to prevent them with oppression and weapons. In this case, whoever is strong will attack the one who is weak. Accepting something like this is neither Islamic nor human.
Allah [Azza wa Jalla] also has rights. Just as it is not permissible to attempt to take away the authority of the government by force of arms through a coup d'état, the earth is under the rule of Allah. Allah also has the right to rule in His property. "vela yushrikü fi hükmihi ehade" Allah does not associate anyone with His judgment.(Kahf-26) Just as it is not permissible to attempt to usurp the authority of people, it is also not permissible to usurp the authority of Allah. Our nation must learn to resist the usurpation of Allah's authority in the same way as it resisted the armed coup attempt and the usurpation of authority. They must also learn to defend Allah's right.
Imam Alparslan Kuytul once again expressed his opposition to all forms of coups and the injustice of coups at the 'Anti-Coup Rally' on 21.07.2016.
