Our Opinion on Fethullah Gülen and Gulenism

01 Mar 2024

After the coup attempt, Imam Alparslan Kuytul and the Furkan Movement were heavily criticized and even slandered as Gulenists and pro-Gülen. Imam Alparslan Kuytul, who is known for his impeccable background, god-fearing and uncompromising attitude, criticized the mistakes of the Gülen Movement years and years before the coup and warned that Allah [Azza Wa Jal] would intervene if they did not repent. Yet the deep powers and the disingenuous media have accused Imam Alparslan Kuytul and the Furkan Movement of being Gulenists, despite all the videos, conversations and Q&As criticizing the Gulen movement.  What did/does Imam Alparslan Kuytul say about Fethullah Gülen and Gulenism?

Imam Alparslan Kuytul's Views on Fethullah Gülen and Gulenism

Imam Alparslan Kuytul's criticism of Fethullah Gülen and his subjects goes back many years to when the Gülen Movement was in league with the state, when it was very popular among the people, and when it was in favor.  The Gülen group had an organizational way of working, not like a congregation. They called themselves a community. They opened schools, dormitories, banks, private tutoring centers and even insurance companies, but they did not open madrassas to educate Muslim youth. They tried to dismantle those who were not one of them. They distanced themselves from those who belonged to different groups in different communities. While distancing themselves from Muslims, they called Jews and Christians their brothers and sisters, considered the People of the Book as heavenly and advocated Interfaith Dialogue. While Islam is the last religion in the sight of Allah... They never explained Tawheed. They did not revive and educate the people, on the contrary, they kept them asleep. They did not follow the Rabbani method of movement. As they did not, they made concessions from religion and iman. They said that the headscarf was a trivial matter and criticized those who were fighting for the right to wear it, let alone fight alongside them. They applauded young girls singing and dancing at the Olympics. What is the Jamaat doing with the Olympics? Is the Jamaat trying to spread language or religion? The Jamaat should be engaged in knowledge and education. It should raise the young generations with the Rabbani method of education. They said that if you live in a secular state, there is no need to work on establishing an Islamic civilization. For years they have tried to show Islam as the same as democracy and secularism. They describe Islam as a democratic system and make it look like there is no problem. They are trying to gut Islam. They are killing people's fighting spirit. They remove the understanding of Islamic civilization. A Jamaat gives dawah. They do taqiyya, not dawah. They don't like Shia, but they act like Shia in this regard.  These are not the behavior of a Jamaat, but the behavior of an organization that has been trained by intelligence services. It is the behavior of an organization tasked with spreading Turkism. The structure of this movement is organizational. Their behavior is organizational behavior. A Jamaat cannot and should not be under the control of intelligence agencies. If it does, it ceases to be a Jamaat. A Jamaat cannot turn into a nationalist/racist movement.

Today, be an opponent of political organizations, not Jamaats! An organizational movement, not an Islamic Jamaat, is doing these activities. And all other jamaats suffer from suspicion because of them. People don't see what needs to be seen and therefore don't criticize what needs to be criticized. Let's look at the issues through the Qur'an and Sunnah. They have secularized the religion, made the harams halal, televised scantily clad women on their TV channels, organized Turkish language Olympics many times. They struck a blow to religion. We called these things out 20 years ago and we still do. You have damaged this religion. You have sided with the powerful and waged war against the religion of Allah. Repent!

We should not dwell on Fethullah Gülen or his subjects. Everyone makes mistakes, but the point is this: these events are the result of moderate Islam. It is the proof of where moderate Islam will end up. By undercutting, by becoming one with the enemy and becoming like them, by making concessions in order to get ahead, by forgetting the main purpose, they went so far that they thought it was an ingenuity to fit in according to the environment, they tried to gut Islam and put people asleep instead of reawakening them. As a result, they reached collapse. These are the results of corruption and damage done to Islam. There may be mistakes in every jamaat, but these are mistakes in the method of their movement. The movement must explain tawheed, it must be Rabbani, it must not compromise on religion, the truth must be spoken and people must be educated. The method and compromises of the movement should be discussed, not the mistakes of individuals. I have never spoken about the personal mistakes of any Jamaat or Imam. Everyone has mistakes, I have mistakes too. But if the movement and the method of education are harming Islam and Muslims and preventing its development, we have to talk about them.
