About Salafism and Wahhabism

Imam Alparslan Kuytul's Opinion on Wahhabism - Salafism

The Wahhabi view is a more extreme extension of Salafism, drawing on the roots of Salafi Salih. Salafism is the collective name for groups united in adherence to the letter of the Qur'an and Sunnah, especially in the understanding of religion and matters of faith. Salaf and Wahhabi group adherents do not accept the method of kalam and tawil. Salafis follow the first generation of Muslims (tabiin and tebeut tabiin) and follow in their footsteps. Wahhabism, on the other hand, was introduced much later than Salafism in the 18th century by Muhammad b. Abdul Wahhab. Although there are historical differences between them, there are similarities in understanding. Although Wahhabism has stricter and more extreme aspects than Salafism in terms of understanding and living the religion, it differs from Salafism in that they have created a new set of issues that are more different in belief and practice.

Salafi salihin are the people of the first generation after the Companions. They are the best generation, the crown of our heads. Today, dozens of movements have emerged in the world under the name of Salafism. They do not see anyone other than themselves as Muslims. Those who say so can call themselves Salafis all they want; they have nothing to do with the Salaf. Salafi salihin did not have such views. In history, it was the Kharijites who spoke like that. Those who call themselves Salafis today may think they are Salafis, but if they look, they will see that their views are those of the Kharijites. It is easy to give a name. It is difficult to be worthy of that name, to bear that name! These people call themselves Salafis, but when you look at what they do, it is mostly for the benefit of America. These groups have nothing to do with true Salafism. They take a few ideas of Salafi Salihin and then say we are Salafis. Being a Salafist is not about taking an opinion.

Wahhabism, which emerged in Saudi Arabia during thr 18th century, is opposed to the Ahl al-Sunnah in many areas. More importantly, what are the goals of the activities of this sect, which developed in an Arabia controlled by the US? Muslim blood is flowing everywhere, people who defy Allah have emerged, our generations are being corrupted, the Ummah is shattered, but we do not see the Wahhabis or the Salaf addressing such issues. Rather, they sow dissension on the secondary issues of theology, on issues that scholars have talked about but have not come to a conclusion. Whoever controls a country also controls the religious authorities there. Won't those who control the governments control the religious institutions? They keep us busy with such issues. We should pay attention to the movements that have emerged in the world under the name of sects, especially in the last few centuries. These may have emerged with the guidance of certain powers, they may have been created and supported. We need to look at what they do. If what they do suits the disbelievers, they are either ignorant or they are under their command. No matter what they call it... The issue today is not really a sectarian issue. The issue is how will the Islamic struggle be? Some people go outside the prophetic method and become moderate Muslims; some people call it armed struggle, which also goes outside the prophetic method. Both are in America's favor. America is happy with extreme Islam and moderate Islam. If they become moderate Islamists, it will be easier to put them to sleep. If they become radical, they will bomb left and right under the names of various sects, and this also suits them. As a result, they can use these two groups as they wish.

Imam Alparslan Kuytul warned Muslims about Wahhabism and Salafism and advised our brothers and sisters, regardless of their sect, to use their minds and not to let themselves be manipulated.
